Danele Rotharmel: "Walking through the whys" in TIME TSUNAMI

Andrea: Hello, Readers and Visitors! Today's guest is Danele Rotharmel, author of the book Time Tsunami (Prism Book Group).

Welcome, Danele! Thank you for being a guest on Everything Writerly. Please tell our readers and blog visitors when you began writing.

Danele: I’ve always loved to write, but my dreams of being an
author died when I became ill.
Danele Rotharmel

Andrea: Will you share with what happened and how your illness affected your life, specifically your writing?

Danele: I’d been poisoned by carbon monoxide from a faulty furnace in my home, and this led to extreme Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. My illness triggered partial amnesia, trouble concentrating, and a shutdown of the creative part of my brain. When I tried to write, the words wouldn’t come.

Eventually, I ended up quarantined in my home for seven years. As time passed, I began to feel my brain unlocking. My memories came flooding back, and I was able to write again. My body was in intense pain, but I used writing as a way to escape. On the worst days, I’d lie in bed and think up plot twists for Time Tsunami. Concentrating on my characters helped me combat the loneliness of quarantine.

And when questions about God haunted my thoughts, I explored my feelings through dialogue. I believe God used Time Tsunami as a way to help me through my illness. I believe He used it as a way for my faith journey to be recorded.

In chapter forty-one, my characters discuss “walking through the why” when bad things happen. “Walking through the why” was what I had to do during quarantine. And like my characters, in the end, I came to believe that God is trustworthy no matter what happens in this life. God loves us, and He can turn anything into something good—even seven years of quarantine.

Andrea: Wow, Danele...that is a moving testimony of God's grace, goodness, and healing powers in your life. I'm encouraged by it and reminded me that nothing is impossible with God!

Your book's official release date is tomorrow, January 15th. Congratulations!!! Where can readers find your novel, Time Tsunami?

DaneleHere is the Amazon link:

It's also available for purchase as a paperback and a Nook eBook.

Here's a book blurb:

Time Tsunami (Book 1 of The Time Counselor Chronicles)

To stop a cruel serial killer, she must travel twenty-four years into the past…

Gil Montgomery, a cadet in the Temporal Counseling Program, can’t wait to pass her field exam and become a professional time surfer. The TEMCO program targets death-row offenders for time-based counseling while they’re children.

For her exam, Gil will travel twenty-four years into the past to counsel ten-year-old Danny Winston before he murders his abusive babysitter, Rick Olsen. Preventing the stabbing should stop the chain of events leading to Danny’s eventual execution.

Will she return from the deadly mission…

Time Tsunami is a fast-moving thriller with time travel twists that keep the reader guessing until the very last page.

Dear Sarah, quarantine was very hard, but you are right--God got me through it. I never would have made it without His help. I hope you enjoy Time Tsunami when you get a chance to read it. I had so much fun writing it! I'm glad that you like the butterfly journal and stationary set. I like butterflies too. And I thought the blue ones were so pretty. Thank you so much for commenting. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Dear Gail, I'm glad that you enjoyed the interview! Thank you so much for your well wishes. My illness was very hard, and I am still dealing with some health issues, but quarantine gave me time to reexamine my faith and write my books. I know that God is real now--not just because the existence of God is something I've been taught or "believed" since childhood, but because I have experienced God's power and peace firsthand in my life. God is truly awesome! I've learned that He is trustworthy even in spite of tragedy. Romans 8:28 really is true! I hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks for commenting!

Thank you so much for commenting, Deana! My illness was very hard, and it really threw me for a loop--I didn't understand why God let me endure such pain. But through the years of quarantine, I've come to believe with all my heart that God loves us and that He is trustworthy in spite of heartache and trials. Romans 8:28 really is true--God can turn every bad thing into something good. If I hadn't been ill, I never would have written my books. I hope you have a wonderful day! And thanks again for your kind words!! I hope that if you read Time Tsunami, you really love it!

Every time I hear Danele's story I am amazed. God truly does use unusual means to work through His people, and strengthen them in the bleakest times. She is a walking testimony and inspires everyone she meets. And Andrea, look at all those beautiful books you wrote! You are pretty inspirational yourself!

Dear J.C., I love writing in journals too!! I started back in middle school, and I've been hooked ever since! I have my journals sitting on a bookshelf. There is something so fun about writing down special thoughts. And it is such a blast to reread journal entries years later. The other day, I was reading through a journal that I wrote in the 8th grade, and I nearly died laughing. I had forgotten all about my role in the 8th grade play. It was so much fun reliving those happy times. Thank you so much for commenting! I hope you have a wonderful night!

Wow! What a story. You have inspired me to change my outlook on my own life. Thank you so much for sharing with us, Danele. Congratulations on your book release!! Time travel books are awesome and butterflies are my favorite. - Blessings, Julianna

Dear Julianna, your wonderful comment means so much to me!! I'm so honored to think that I have inspired you. Thank you for telling me! What I went through was such a struggle--and I didn't always go through it gracefully. I questioned God, I yelled at God, I even tried to deny His existence--but in the end, I finally allowed Him to wrap His loving arms around me, and I felt peace. I'm so glad that God didn't give up on me, even though I tried to give up on Him! God's pretty awesome!! I'm so glad that you enjoy time travel books and butterflies! I do too! I hope you have a really wonderful evening!! Thanks so much for commenting!

Thank you for such an inspiring interview. I really need to hear your message today.

What an interesting concept for a book. I am adding it to my to be read list.

Thank you so much, Kathy! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the interview and felt it was inspiring. God is incredibly awesome, isn't He! By my second year of quarantine, I thought my life was over, but God had new plans in store for me--plans that turned out better than anything I could have imagined. I don't understand many things, but I do know that God is able to take the bad things in our life and turn them into something good. I wouldn't have become an author if I hadn't been sick and quarantined. I hope you have a wonderful evening. I'm so glad that you think my book sounds interesting. Thank you so much for commenting!

Great interview with Danele! Danele, CONGRATULATIONS on your release of Time Tsunami. I love time travel stories.

Dear Robbie, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the interview! I'm also glad that you like the gift package. I thought it was so lovely--I'm glad that you think so too! Quarantine was incredibly hard, but God was with me every step of the way. Before this all happened, I wouldn't have thought that I could endure it either. But God gave me the strength I needed to face each day. I think that's the key--7 years is too hard to face, but 24 hours is manageable. I hope you have a wonderful night! Thanks so much for commenting!
